The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University invites applications to fill a non-tenure-track Academic Specialist position.
The main responsibility of the Academic Specialist position is teaching. The annual course load is six courses. The Academic Specialist will also participate in department, university and professional service activities as well as research activities.
Course assignments may be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the department with primary emphasis on undergraduate industrial engineering courses, such as probability and statistics, quality assurance, operations research, manufacturing systems, engineering economy and capstone design.
The Academic Specialist is encouraged to initiate and undertake research and service activities, including, but not limited to advising undergraduate and graduate students, student recruiting, educational research, publications, and presentations.
The person will report to the Department Chair.
Ph.D. required, in Industrial Engineering or related field, with B.S. preferred to be in Industrial Engineering. At least two years experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Industrial experience is desirable.
The Academic Specialist will develop course content and prepare lectures and other course delivery material; conduct or assist on research projects; and perform service to the department, university, and the profession. The Department establishes the key responsibilities for the position, including breakdown of activities between teaching, research, and service.
