This individual provides administrative, secretarial and organizational support in a student-centered, team-oriented operation within the Department of Residential Life. This person reports to the Associate Dean of Residential Life and provides support for The Director of Residential Life and four Assistant Directors in the following areas: administration, supervision and management of staff and students in the residence halls housing 8300 students and staffed by 17 Residence Directors, 6 Graduate Assistants and 188 Resident Assistants. Individual must be comfortable dealing with a diverse client population that includes undergraduate and graduate students, their family members and advocates, as well as university administrators and the general public and capable of handling sensitive and confidential personnel/project –related information.
Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least two year’s experience working in a dynamic, high volume business, preferable in an academic, real estate, or sales environment with an extensive product line. The idea candidate has a bachelors degree, is an outgoing, detail-oriented team player who is able to communicate clearly to a diverse student, advocate, and staff base. Demonstrated ability to generate documents at a minimum of 50 WPM in an IBM-compatible PC environment strongly preferred, i.e., word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail. Additional experience in database usage considered a plus, e.g., Microsoft Access and mainframe computer.
Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (oral and written), “hands on” experience and familiarity with the terminology and functions of word processing, spread sheet, and database applications in a PC-based network environment; excellent typing/proofreading skills; proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information; demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently and manage several tasks simultaneously. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
