GENERAL DUTIES: Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise as noted below.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION: The Department of Social Science at New York City College of Technology of The City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Sociology to begin Fall 2012. City Tech, a comprehensive college offering Associate and Baccalaureate Degrees, enrolls over 16,000 students and is located in downtown Brooklyn. The Department is dedicated to promoting student success and encourages its faculty to become involved in innovative educational approaches such as learning communities and writing intensive courses. The position requires teaching, student advisement, curriculum development, college service, and active research and scholarship. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach a wide range of Sociology courses such as Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Sociology of Aging, Sociology of the Family and Urban Sociology. The Department is in the process of developing a Baccalaureate Program in Sustainability Studies; candidates with a background in this area are particularly encouraged to apply. The position also offers opportunities for interdisciplinary work and collaboration with faculty in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, Professional Studies, and Technology & Design.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent as noted below.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Sociology required. Teaching experience at the college level is required and the candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning. Experience with diverse student populations in urban settings is desired. The successful candidate will have an active research program and demonstrate a strong potential for scholarship. Grant writing experience is a plus.

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
