FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college of nearly 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Construction Management and Civil Engineering Department at the Assistant Professor level, to begin during the 2014-2015 academic year.
The Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology Department is entering a new phase of growth and program development and seeks experienced individuals who will provide significant leadership in the department's new B. Tech degree. The department has a record of consistent enrollment growth and facilities expansion over the last three years. Facilities include 18,000 square feet of state-of-the-art laboratories and class rooms.
The Department of Construction Management and Civil Engineering Technology offers the following programs: Construction Management Technology/B Tech; Civil Engineering Technology/AAS (TAC/ABET); Construction Management Technology/AAS; and Construction Management/Certificate.
In addition, the Department administers the following special programs: ACI Certification Field Inspection of Fresh Concrete - Level I; NICET Test Site ' National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies; OSHA 10; and Certified Survey Technician (CST).
The mission of the Department of Construction Management & Civil Engineering Technology at New York City College of Technology is to educate students for careers as technicians and technologists in the fields of construction management and civil engineering. Our focus is on the fundamental concepts and technical skills required to create a wide range of career paths in the construction and civil engineering profession. We balance practical knowledge with theory. The department has maintained a long tradition of educating non-traditional students of diverse backgrounds for successful entry into the construction industry. Through excellence in teaching and community service, the department promotes opportunities for scholarly, personal, and professional growth. The department is also committed to maintaining a diverse faculty. Faculty members will be involved in student recruitment, student activities, job placement, and outreach. Faculty members are expected to pursue scholarly activities in engineering technology, as well as participate in all department activities, engage in curriculum development, and serve on college committees. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and Saturday courses.
Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in fluid mechanics or structural engineering from an accredited institution and a minimum of three (3) or more years (part-time acceptable) of relevant U.S. engineering industrial experience. Excellent written and oral communication and computer skills are required. University level teaching experience and professional registration (P.E.) are preferred.
Ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
