New Mexico State University (NMSU), located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, seeks an accomplished, creative and dynamic development professional to head advancement
activities for this six location institution. The Vice President for University Advancement reports directly to the President and is responsible for leading the design, implementation and coordination of an effective and well integrated advancement program that supports the University’s mission and strategic direction. The position also serves as President of the NMSU Foundation and is responsible for working with the NMSU Foundation Board in overseeing the Foundation’s endowment, investments, fundraising, donor cultivation and stewardship. Further, the position will contribute to the overall success of the Office of Alumni Relations by supporting the development of a comprehensive program designed to cultivate the involvement of alumni with the University.
Founded in 1888 as a land grant institution, New Mexico State University is located in an urban setting in beautiful high desert terrain, year-round sunshine and moderate temperatures. NMSU offers a wide range of programs and awards associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees through its main campus and four community colleges. The Vice President for Advancement will serve as a key strategist for the University through service on the President’s Academic Council, provide organizational and strategic leadership for all advancement activities in conjunction with the academic deans; establish and implement plans, programs and schedules for University Advancement; coordinate the preparation of development proposals; facilitate the presentation of development projects to corporations, foundations and individuals; and work collaboratively with deans and university administrators in coordinating development activities of staffs of colleges and departments.
The ideal candidate will have at minimum a Bachelor’s Degree and at least ten years of previous university advancement experience. Evidence of leadership and excellence in a senior and/or executive level position are a must, as are demonstrated skills in short- and long-range planning, team building, techniques of fund raising, and oral and written communications. Preference will be given for experience in executing a major comprehensive campaign at the university level, fund raising in a public university setting, and professional certification in development activities.
