Warning message
This job expired 2 months ago.The Board of Trustees, through its Presidential Search Committee, invites nominations and applications for the position of President of New Jersey City University. The Board seeks an exceptional leader who will continue the positive momentum the University has experienced under the leadership of Dr. Carlos Hernández, who will retire following 19 distinguished years as President of the University. It is expected that the next president of NJCU will begin duties on or about July 1, 2012.
Founded in 1929 as a teacher training school, the institution evolved to become a liberal arts college in 1968 and in 1998 achieved university status. The institution currently has three colleges (arts and sciences, professional studies, and education) with a total of 8,328 graduate and undergraduate students. Since it first opened its doors, NJCU has emerged as an urban institution of distinction, a place of higher education in the context of a dynamic, ethnically diverse urban environment. Emphasis is placed on both traditional and applied learning as most students are first-generation college attendees who see higher education as an essential step in their professional preparation. The University is committed to the improvement of the educational, intellectual, cultural, socioeconomic, and physical environment of the surrounding urban region, the state, and the nation.
NJCU seeks an innovative, visionary and strategic person who is available to students, open to ideas and suggestions from throughout the community, and committed to the role of public higher education and, more specifically, to the synergies between an ethnically diverse urban university and its dynamic environment. The candidate must be someone who possesses an understanding and appreciation of excellent teaching and scholarship, is of impeccable integrity, has a collaborative leadership style, and entrepreneurial business skills sufficient to position NJCU as a 21st-century educational leader within a competitive and increasingly complex state and national environment.
