Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) is a research center administered by North Carolina State University. Located within the University's visionary Centennial Campus, ITRE conducts surface, water, and air transportation research, while providing professional training and educational opportunities. The Institute serves all 16 statewide campuses in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system and partners with transportation professionals around the globe. The University of North Carolina, Office of the President, designated ITRE in a Memorandum of Understanding to work in partnership with the Technical University of Lisbon in the area of Transportation and Environment. ITRE became a member of the North Carolina Transportation Consortium in 2002, and was the lead institute for the Southeastern Transportation Center (a USDOT University Transportation Center) from 1989-1995. The Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) is a university-based institute committed to leadership in the study of surface and air transportation issues through fostering analytical thinking, integrating technology in education and research, serving as a catalyst for problem solving, and cultivating professionals and students dedicated to excellence in transportation.
Essential Job Duties: To develop, design, manage, and maintain web and multimedia content and systems for the COVERLAB (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Resource Lab) project goals and deliverables. The mission of COVERLAB is to improve commercial vehicle enforcement programs by anticipating emerging commercial vehicle enforcement issues and by serving as a center of excellence for optimizing commercial vehicle enforcement planning through innovative decision support technologies, applied CMV research education and training. The ideal candidate will: * Plan and work on shared projects within the group and coordinates with others to achieve and meet set deadlines, project goals, and achieve deliverables. * Develop and deliver a variety of content types for enabling rich interactive usability of the COVERLAB site and its accompanying web applications These presentation tier technologies include interactive multimedia content, video tutorials, social media feeds and interactive data visualizations. * Build, administer, configure and customize COVERLAB's content management system.
Department Required Skills : * Working knowledge of JavaScript (jQuery) * Demonstrated experience with content management system (CMS) technologies including one or more of the following (SharePoint, Joomla, DotnetNuke, Drupal, Wordpress) * Ability to translate complex technical concepts to intuitively understandable visual content (i.e. infographics) * Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills * Ability to independently discover and implement software solutions to translate questions into meaningful answers * Ability to read, review and edit content for relevance, message, implications and tone * Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities * Strong oral and written communication skills; being able to communicate effectively by email and phone * Positive team participation skills * Well-developed troubleshooting skills * Self-starter with enthusiasm to learn and grow professionally * Ability to adapt to changing conditions, learn new technologies and apply to work * Excellent presentation skills necessary for client interaction * Familiarity with the creation of multimedia and interactive content
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science, Informatics, Analytics or related field * Working knowledge of XML, XSLT, XHTML/HTML, CSS, and iFrames and development using REST-ful APIs, and web services * Solid understanding of web usability principles including UI/UX best practices * Demonstrated ability to translate project needs into meaningful and insightful web-enabled visualizations of quantitative data * Experience developing web-enabled video content and e-learning webinar solutions (CamStudio, Captivate, Blackboard, etc.) * Experience writing and editing copy for the web and news media * Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Web Edition (Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) * Familiarity with web application technology stack environments including SharePoint Server, SQL Server and IIS * Familiarity with GIS software
