Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Division of Human Resources is one of several major divisions reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, Human Resources is responsible for personnel and human resource administration of NC State University's 8000+ faculty and staff employee population. Human Resources comprises a team of more than 80 employees.
Essential Job Duties: As NC State's Human Resources division embarks on a new business model to streamline processes and enhance customer satisfaction, the Senior Compensation Consultant is a vital member of the team and a major contributor in compensation and position classification activities. The Consultant works with the Associate Vice Chancellor, Director for Classification and Compensation, and EPA Personnel Director to research, propose, develop, and implement compensation strategies and pay ranges/structures for staff (subject to the state personnel act), EPA (exempt from the state personnel act) non-faculty professionals, faculty, and senior administrators. The position plays a key role in developing and facilitating the use of an overarching university compensation philosophy. The position also completes compensation-related projects having campus-wide scope and impact. The position performs is responsible for market evaluation and analysis, job analysis, formulating salary/pay recommendations, conducting statistical analysis, running reports, and participating in salary surveys (matches, analysis of results, etc.). This will be done in accordance with best practice compensation philosophy as well as with the applicable university, UNC General Administration,state, and federal regulations.
Department Required Skills : Experience in strategic compensation practices; job analysis for a wide range of occupational fields found in higher education typically focusing on professionals, top academicians, executives and other exempt personnel. Must be knowledgeable and skilled with compensation principles and techniques; job design methods; organizational design and consultation; statistical analysis;survey participation and analysis;and project management. Proficient knowledge and application of Excel as well as substantive functional and technical expertise in ERP HR systems and/or applications (specifically PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, or closely comparable systems) for system design, analysis, and reporting purposes.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Prefer 3-5 years of compensation experience as well as experience in job analysis and organizational design. Must have statistical analysis expertise preferably in a complex university setting and/or organization of more than 2,000 employees as well as experience in salary structure design. Proficiency in database query and analytic tools. World@Work Certification or Course Work and willingness to obtain certification. SPHR certification.
