Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) is to provide NCSU faculty with optimal animal resources at the least practical cost. The term "animal resources" includes not only animal housing facilities, but also animal husbandry services, veterinary care, technical services, expertise in laboratory animal technology and medicine, and assurance of compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional policies for animal care and use. LAR is responsible for assisting faculty in conducting animal experimentation in keeping with these standards, and is committed to assuring the well-being of experimental animals while providing services that facilitate their humane and judicious use.
Essential Job Duties: This position is responsible for managing and supervising the LAR Veterinary Services and Central Procedures laboratory. This includes; Clinical cases, Radiology cases, Office Administration, PI communication, Billing, Student Training, Staff Scheduling, Animal Enrichment, Technical Training, Diagnostics, Supervisory responsibilities and preventative medicine. Additionally, this position provides project assistance, oversight of procedures, inventory and ordering and Research project management/planning.
Department Required Skills : Ability to learn and apply the Laboratory Animal Resources and Central Procedures Lab policies and procedures. Supervisory experience required. Ability to oversee laboratory operations. Ability to manage budgets. Ability to oversee multiple projects and handle competing priorities. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Laboratory Animal Technologist certification preferred.
