Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State University Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI) is an established Institute located on the NC Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC. The NC Research Campus was created to have all aspects of health and nutrition in one place complimented by multiple state and private entities providing the academic, research and extension resources. The PHHI currently houses researchers and staff from various departments including Horticultural Science, food Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences, Plant Biology, NC Cooperative Extension, Agriculture and Resource Economics, and the NC Agricultural Research Service.
Essential Job Duties: The position provides a unique opportunity for qualified candidates interested in bioinformatics education. The research, in conjunction with Davidson College and Lenoir-Rhyne University focuses on developing effective web-based tools and resources to provide upper level undergraduates with real life research opportunities. The North Carolina Research Campus houses state of the art bioinformatics and genomics services and provides an interactive environment that encourages and fosters collaboration. The required candidate will assist in class development and upgrading of an existing genomic database to facilitate student research projects.
Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree (or higher) in Bioinformatics or related field, with experience in programming or web design.
Department Required Skills : Effective communication and teaching skills are essential. Ability to analyze, interpret and clearly present data is also required.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: PhD in Bioinformatics preferred. Knowledge of Chado/Drupal database management a plus. Knowledge of genetics, statistics or bioinformatics software programs a plus.
