Primary Function of Organization Unit: The College of Veterinary Medicine conducts clinical research as part of its mission to advance knowledge and improve animal health. A Service Core of the Center for Comparative Medicine and Translational Research (CCMTR), the Clinical Studies Core offers resources and expertise to facilitate clinical research at the College of Veterinary Medicine. The mission of the Clinical Studies Core is to support interactions between clinical and basic research groups within North Carolina State University and to expand collaborative relationships beyond the university with practicing veterinarians, animal owners, and industry partners.
Essential Job Duties: The successful candidate in this position will be responsible for the management and running of the day-to-day activities of the Clinical Studies Core (CSC), and will also be responsible for providing technical assistance to projects run through the CSC. Previous experience in Clinical Research, and Good Clinical Practice required, as is a good understanding or experience with running Clinical Trials for pivotal submissions to the FDA (FDA or FDA CVM). The ability to collect and maintain accurate records in both written and digital form is essential, as is the ability to instruct others on doing this. The position requires the ability to manage day-to-day activities, budgeting, approvals and communication across multiple clinical research projects under several Principle Investigators. The ability to work with a variety of species of animal is essential. The position will involve the day-to-day organizational management of other CSC personnel (technicians, DVMs). Routine tasks will include the processing of clinical research applications, constructing budgets for plans of work, tracking time spent on individual projects, assisting with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee applications, recruitment of patients, scheduling clinical research patients, collecting biological samples from patients, and coordinating multiple schedules to allow for optimal flow of clinical studies, coordinating and scheduling patient visits and re-visits. Tasks may also include design, developing and optimization of SOPs, extraction of DNA, RNA from biological specimens, maintain the database for the Biospecimen Respository, interfacing with potential or actual sponsors (Industry; Donors), laboratory maintenance, maintenance of safety plans.
Minimum Education/Experience: Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in biological science or related field. Previous experience in clinical research (both project management and patient care)is required.
