Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the Study Abroad Office is to serve all North Carolina State University students by providing academically-based international experiences which will give them the skills to be active, informed, and culturally sensitive citizens in the global community.

Essential Job Duties:

The major roles of the position are to greet and provide a first point of contact for anyone entering, e-mailing, or calling the Study Abroad Office; maintenance of office procedures manual; and receipt and logging of daily payments.

This position is also responsible for oversight of general student advising, including disbursing accurate information in a timely manner to students in all relevant medium, coordinating, giving, and training interns to give general advising sessions on a weekly basis, and including accurately scheduling individual advising appointments with regional advisors.

Departmental Required Skills:

Position requires ability to communicate knowledgeably to those who e-mail, visit or call inquiring about programs. To perform work, person in this position should also have the ability to learn and retain large amounts of information and adapt to a dynamic work environment.

Must have a strong interest and/or experience in study abroad or international education.

Computer abilities required, including experience with Excel or other spreadsheets, e-mail programs and Microsoft Word. Excellent telephone and writing skills and customer service. Cultural sensitivity to deal with international callers is necessary as well.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Prefer basic knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.

Previous experience working with students and experience in a study abroad environment.
