Primary Function of Organization Unit: The purpose of the Department of Student Health Services (SHS) is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health promotion program in the NC State University community. The major function of the SHS is that of providing outpatient care to the 34,000+ NC State students. Some level of medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks.
Essential Job Duties: The primary functions of the Medical Laboratory Technician is to interpret laboratory and x-ray orders and to perform lab tests and x-ray procedures requested by Student Health Services (SHS) physicians and extenders. To provide lab and x-ray results to aid physicians and extenders in making a diagnosis. To process lab and x-ray results and reports for review by the physicians and extenders. To perform x-ray procedures ordered directly by the Athletic Department and Orthopedic Specialty Clinic. To provide lab and x-ray results for any outside physician's order.
Department Required Skills : Experience with Electronic Medical Records software. Must report to work for Adverse Weather and related scenarios and for public health emergencies.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Graduation from a four year university with a degree in medical technology; or graduation from an associate degree program of medical laboratory technology with at least one year of experience. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of procedures. General knowledge of the basic pathophysiological processes being monitored and how the medical laboratory science is applied. General knowledge and/or experience in radiology preferred, but not required. CPR certification recommended.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Technicians performing testing must meet the educational qualifications for performing tests as stated in CLIA '88. Must be ASCP certified or eligible.
