Primary Function of Organization Unit: The primary function of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department (CBE) is to provide educational programs leading to BS, MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering. The administrative unit provides support to the education program and the research programs that reside in the department.
Essential Job Duties: The Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Professional analyzes CBE's work environments to design and implement programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease, injury, and/or environmental impact caused by chemical, physical, ergonomic and/or other factors. Work may involve risk analysis, environmental program management (such as permitting, waste management, and remediation), fire safety, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness or other programs. The EHS Professional conducts inspections and informs departmental leadership of areas not in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and University policies, in order to gain support for addressing necessary corrective actions, which the EHS Professional may manage. The EHS Professional is responsible for building a safety-minded culture in the CBE community and for instilling a culture of responsibility and accountability. The EHS Professional advises Departmental leadership on the cost and effectiveness of EHS programs and actions and represents CBE on EHS-related committees at the college and university level.
Department Required Skills : - Ability to interpret and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures, varying from basic to complex, to internal customers, and to exercise independent judgment. - Demonstrated project planning experience. - Computer skills including working knowledge of Word , proficient with word processing, e-mail, Web browsers, and spreadsheets. - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships. - Understanding of the current information resource needs of clients in a college/university setting. - Strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - 3-6 years relevant experience, skills with University research labs, meticulous organizational skills. - Knowledge of EHS State and federal rules and regulations. - Knowledge of local policies and regulations, and accreditations and consensus requirements such as JACO, ASHRAE, ANSI, etc. - Knowledge of applicable equipment.
