Primary Function of Organization Unit: To teach, conduct research, and provide leadership to improve community college education and extend the distinguished contributions of William Dallas Herring's contributions to lifelong learning.
Essential Job Duties: Conduct scholarly research on pressing educational problems, generate external grant-funding, and publish and communicate in high impact media Provide leadership and work collaboratively with policy makers and community college leaders at the local, state and national levels to further enhance community colleges success for a diverse society and global workforce Engage in collaborative research with faculty in the College and the Friday Institute Teach courses in the Department's Adult and Community College Education program in Raleigh and its site-based doctoral program located at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Recruit and advise graduate students Contribute to the intellectual diversity of the department Mentor junior faculty members
Minimum Education/Experience: Earned doctorate in higher or adult education or a related area Significant productivity in research Success in generating external funding for research and development Leadership in the community college sector Teaching and supervising graduate students
Department Required Skills : Research expertise on important areas of community college performance and/or labor force development Ability to work effectively with policy makers and community college leaders Capacity to attract and supervise graduate students Visionary leadership
