Primary Function of Organization Unit: The North Carolina Solar Center, at N.C. State University, advances a sustainable energy economy by educating, demonstrating and providing support for clean energy technologies, practices, and policies. The N.C. Solar Center serves as a resource for innovative, clean energy technologies through demonstration, technical assistance, outreach and training. It also administers the Database of Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE), a resource providing financial incentives and policies. Essential Job Duties: The Clean Transportation Technical Specialist will work as part of a team with the Transportation Program Manager at the North Carolina Solar Center (NCSC) to develop and administer projects that focus on expanding the use of alternative fuels and advanced transportation technologies in North Carolina. Primarily, this candidate will provide support to a wide variety of projects that involve, implementing available technologies into fleets, and analyzing developments in the field. The position requires the candidate to be technical, administration and communications oriented and familiar with alternative fuels and advanced transportation technology with a focus on emission reduction, energy efficiency and fuel diversity. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: * Assisting with administering emission reduction sub award grants. Tasks entail building relationships with project managers, tracking overall budget, developing/maintaining database, tracking sub award contracts, processing reimbursement requests and tracking project progress to ensure that funds are spent correctly and in a timely manner; * Developing a clean transportation marketing campaign that may include short educational videos, billboards, radio and TV PSAs; * Recruiting and coordinating a student internship program; * Reviewing, conducting and developing emission reduction technology cost benefit analysis for project evaluation and tracking; * Assisting with fleet survey reporting. Synthesizing data into a 'user friendly' format to aggregate emissions comparisons, lifecycle costs and benefits. Assisting with establishment of a Green Fleet Program; * Understanding and tracking the air quality regulatory arena (i.e. State Implementation Plan, Transportation Conformity, federal and state fuel and mobile emission standards, etc.). Understanding and tracking related federal and state alternative fuel and advanced transportation technology legislation; * Organizing and participating in meetings, conferences or events that coordinate and promote the use of alternative fuels and advanced transportation technologies in North Carolina and the Southeast Region; and * Developing and updating education and outreach materials including factsheets, newsletters, technology success stories, annual survey of technology and alternative fuel providers and use;
Minimum Education/Experience: * Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies/Science, Policy, Public Administration and/or Planning, Engineering, Communications, or a similar field.
Department Required Skills : * The position requires familiarity with alternative fuels, advanced transportation technologies and related state and federal interests such as air quality, climate change and energy security concerns. * The candidate must have experience and initiative to manage projects and excellent analytical skills. * Strong writing and communication skills are essential. * The candidate should have exemplary organizational skills to develop proposals, analysis mechanisms, project tracking, outreach events, and other activities. * Software skills should include most recent versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. * The candidate must be a team player yet possesses a strong initiative to work independently on projects and programs.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's preferred * Experience working with fleet and fuel providers; and at least two years of professional experience in alternative fuels or related arena are preferred. * Grant writing and marketing experience are a plus.
