Primary Function of Organization Unit: Enterprise Application Services (EAS) is in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division at North Carolina State University. EAS is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, enhancement & maintenance of the University's enterprise business applications. This includes: development, operation & maintenance of all enterprise administrative systems (Advancement, Financials, HR, Portal and Student Information Systems, etc.), configuration management, maintenance, enhancements, and application integration.
Essential Job Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to develop and maintain the Student Information System (SIS) and other application created and maintained by EAS. The position focuses on Student Records/Admissions and the NextGen Admissions project. The NextGen project is creating leading edge, mobile friendly applications for NCSU Graduate Faculty, Staff and Students to use for managing the admissions life cycle. These applications are required to be mobile friendly and use PeopleSoft (SIS) data structures and tables. This position is responsible for working with the IT Manager, Project Lead, Team Members, and Functional Offices in order to implement complex software solutions with minimal supervision. The position is proficient in both functional business process understanding and advanced technical solutions. This position provides technical production support, designs and develops system enhancements and new applications, performs system testing, writes and maintains technical specifications and documentation.
Department Required Skills : Ability to independently, quickly, and efficiently identify and solve technical problems that can impact a large number of customers. Ability to combine strong technical knowledge with a strong understanding of customer requirements to offer customer solutions to problems in a very practical, timely and efficient manner. Customer service skills are critical. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. Thorough understanding of the project development life cycle, including but not limited to application analysis, development, testing, documentation, approval and post migration validation. Attention to detail and ability to form strong relationships between team members, customers, and management is essential.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: PHP application development experience using data structures from an ERP system, such as PeopleSoft, or from other large complex systems. Experience with Oracle SQL and PL-SQL is strongly preferred. Experience with Web 2.0 tools such as JavaScript, HTML5, jQuery and Ajax are preferred.
