Primary Function of Organization Unit: Organized as an inter-institutional program of The University of North Carolina in 1984, the Small Business & Technology Development Center's (SBTDC) mission is to support the growth and development of North Carolina's economy by encouraging entrepreneurship, assisting in the creation and expansion of small businesses and facilitating technology development and transfer. The SBTDC maintains 17 offices across the state, each affiliated with a North Carolina University. Since its inception in 1984, the SBTDC has provided managerial and technical assistance to thousands of new and established small business owners, reaching out to all of North Carolina's 100 counties. Assistance is provided to the small business owner or the aspiring entrepreneur in the areas of assessing the feasibility of a business idea, preparing a business plan, finding sources of capital, developing marketing strategies and operation and human resource management. The SBTDC offers specialized market development assistance in the areas of technology development and commercialization, government procurement, international business development, business and research services, and supply chain.
Essential Job Duties: The Assistant Director for Strategy & Organization Development (SOD) is a full-time, statewide position at the Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC). Essential duties of the Assistant SOD Director include strategic and business plan development, facilitation and training, management consulting, and the design and delivery of leadership and management development programs. The Assistant SOD Director will also assist in the facilitation and training qualification of SBTDC professional staff statewide. Further duties include the outreach, promotion, and relationship building with key SBTDC stakeholders.
Minimum Education/Experience: BA or BS plus significant years of relevant experience.
Department Required Skills : Excellent communication skills with experience presenting to a variety of audiences.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: 10 plus years of relevant experience that includes consulting, business and/or strategic plan development, group and executive training, and leadership development. Knowledge of SBTDC's programs and business strategy and innovation is strongly preferred.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire date.
