Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Agricultural Education/FFA Team is headed by the State Agricultural Education Leader. The function of the unit is to support secondary agricultural education teachers through curriculum and professional development activities, along with overall leadership for the 400+ Ag Ed teachers in the state and the 19,000+ FFA members.
Essential Job Duties: This is a 12-month EPA professional position in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education. The position provides overall leadership for the secondary agricultural education programs in North Carolina. The position will also serve as the State Advisor for the North Carolina FFA Association. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison with the Director and staff in Career and Technical Education in the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Responsibilities: The State Agricultural Education Leader provides leadership for school-based agricultural education programs throughout NC. This includes coordinating and directing the activities of three Regional Agricultural Education Coordinators and the State FFA Coordinator in the areas of program planning, curriculum development, professional development for agriculture teachers, and the total FFA program. The State Agricultural Education Leader is expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with local and county school personnel, the leadership in the NC Department of Public Instruction, agricultural education faculty in the three university agricultural teacher education programs in the state, and other state and national agencies and organizations in agriculture and agricultural education. The State Agricultural Education Leader will work under the leadership of the Head of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at North Carolina State University.
Minimum Education/Experience: An earned master's degree (or higher) in Agricultural Education or related field and a minimum of five years of agricultural education teaching experience.
Department Required Skills : Demonstrated leadership experience in educational settings or professional organizations is expected.
