Primary Function of Organization Unit: NC State Biology provides educational opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students and conducts world class research in a variety of areas in modern biology. From studies in molecular and cellular biology to neurobiology and physiology to ecology and conservation biology, we share a passion for understanding the living world.
Essential Job Duties: This permanent, full-time position involves the academic advising of majors in the Department of Biology. This position will be expected to become fully familiar with the requirements of the Biological Sciences and Zoology curricula in the Department of Biology and the degree programs within the College of Agriculture and Life sciences, to advise assigned students about the requirements for those curricula, and to monitor advisees' progress towards fulfillment of the the requirements for declaring a major (in the case of undeclared students) and for attaining the baccalaureate degree. The position will also be expected to participate in teaching courses to first year students, focusing on issues related to their transition to college. One course will be co-taught with a faculty member. This is a 9 month re-occurring position.
Minimum Education/Experience: A baccalaureate degree (or higher) is required.
Department Required Skills : The successful applicant will be a team player, out-going, and genuinely interested in helping others to understand their opportunities and to pursue their aspirations.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: An advanced degree in biology or related field, education, or academic counseling is preferred. Experience in an advising role at the collegiate level is a definite asset. Evidence of working with biology or similar majors is desirable.
