This job expired 3 weeks ago.National Louis University (NLU) seeks a strategic, energetic, and visionary leader to serve as the founding Program Chair/Director for the launch of its new Criminal Justice Program. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a combination of practical experience in law enforcement, teaching skills and a track record of successfully implementing new programs. Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Sociology with a Criminology emphasis, or a closely related profession. A doctoral degree is preferred.
The Program Chair/Director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and works collaboratively with NLU Academic Affairs. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the program launch and development. The successful candidate will be strategic, innovative and results-oriented with a track record of success – building relationships and networks with the external community, growing programs, managing effectively, teaching, and committing to excellence that results in a thriving program. S/he will work in partnership with faculty members to develop best practices curricula, programs, and related student services.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, abilities, and qualities:
- A deep understanding of criminal justice and law enforcement, along with progressive knowledge of changing trends.
- Applied experience in the profession is required.
- A track record of networking in law enforcement and related organizations.
- An understanding of the educational needs of law enforcement professionals, criminology and security management professionals.
- Experience with program assessment and learning outcomes is a plus.
- Experience with online or hybrid programs is a plus.
- Active nationally and/or regionally in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Criminology, or similar professional organizations.
- Proven experience in managing across functional areas and working collaboratively with other departments to achieve success.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, evaluate and retain faculty and adjunct faculty to teach courses that are applied, highly engaged and practitioner focused.
- Excellent organization, communication, and time management skills required.
- Ability to listen to divergent views and work collaboratively to achieve results.
NLU is a private, non-profit, independent institution serving a diverse multicultural population of approximately 10,000 students enrolled in three Colleges with programs from the baccalaureate to the doctoral level. Students attend classes primarily on five campuses in the Chicago metropolitan area and three other campuses in Southern Wisconsin and Florida.
