The NLC is the only institution of higher learning that focuses exclusively on the higher education needs of labor union leaders and members. Founded in 1969 and formally opened in 1974, the George Meany Center for Labor Studies was established by the AFL-CIO to promote education and training opportunities for union leadership and members.
The Position
The NLC seeks a team-oriented Registrar who has proven experience in management of student academic records and registration processes in an online environment, as well as significant knowledge of and experience in working with adult learners and non-traditional sources of collegiate credit. The applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills; the ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain complex academic policies and procedures; demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse group of internal and external constituencies; and experience managing, utilizing, and enhancing complex, integrated student information systems. This is a hands on position.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Organize and administer the records, registration and graduation functions, and maximize services to students while ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
• Supervise the coordination, evaluation and certification of all graduation applications, while overseeing the complete graduation process.
• Responsible for collecting, recording, maintaining and reporting of student records within FERPA guidelines, e.g., grades, registration data, and transcripts.
• Provide leadership and develop appropriate recommendations for the implementation of related technological applications in support of enhanced services offered through the Registrar’s office.
• Problem solve the research, analysis and resolution of student disputes as they relate to records and registration.
• Collaborate with administrators, deans, faculty, IT and counselors to facilitate and improve services to students, including catalog and registration/records policy questions.
• Serve on the Enrollment Management Committee.
• Supervise and evaluate staff in the Registrar’s office.
• Participate in professional development activities and serve on college committees that support the goals and objectives of the college.
• Provide records and registration services, including registering students, issuing transcripts, answering phones, scanning, reporting grades and working on special events.
• This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other reasonable related duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
• Masters degree in student services, educational administration or a related area from a regionally accredited college or university.
• 3 years of direct registrar experience or 5 years in a closely related student services area, with a focus on student data systems.
• Proven experience working with adult learners and non-traditional sources of credits.
• Demonstrated understanding of the application of technology to deliver records and registration services.
• Proven record of successful supervisory experience in a people-oriented environment.
• A proven record in working successfully with diverse populations.
• A positive attitude and ability to plan and adapt to change.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, college departments, and cross-functional teams.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• A proven record of working successfully in an online environment.
