Luther College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, with a focus on sustainability or a related area; a tenure-eligible position beginning late August 2014. We invite applications from all disciplines but specifically encourage applications from graduates of economics, political science, business, or interdisciplinary programs with a social science emphasis.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. by September 1, 2014; candidates from business and law disciplines will be considered with an advanced degree and significant experience relevant to sustainability. Requirements include demonstrated excellence in college teaching, commitment to the liberal arts, and a research program compatible with undergraduates that can connect to sustainability efforts on campus or in the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specialization is open, but teaching duties will include introductory and upper level courses in Environmental Studies, participation in all-college interdisciplinary courses, and courses in the candidates area of interest. The teaching load at Luther College is six courses per year (spread over spring and fall semesters and a January term). The successful applicant also will support the work of the Center for Sustainable Communities. Additional duties include advising, committee work and meeting with prospective students.
