Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (from a regionally accredited college or university) in mathematics, statistics, or a related field of study required. Candidates with a college degree (from a regionally accredited college or university) in a field other than mathematics, statistics, or a related area who nonetheless possess work experience in leading efforts grounded in the use of predictive/quantitative analytics might also be considered. The Director will be and will remain current in quantitative and statistical analysis research and applications, including modeling; predictive analytics/machine learning; the analysis, collection, and use of high-dimensional datasets; and various uses and applications thereof, including data visualization, model applications, and actionable reporting.

The cover letter will, in order, 1) briefly indicate the candidate's interest in this position; 2) explain the candidate's vision for the Center's being a model of cutting-edge practices that other higher education institutions want to emulate; and then 3) explain how the candidate would successfully employ predictive analytics and lead cross-functional teams in order to help the college accomplish one of the following goals:** *** create and execute a strong enrollment management plan; * use an analysis of disproportionate impacts to ensure a high rate of retention of targeted groups of students; * execute both strong short-term and strong long-term student, faculty, administrative, and staff recruitment strategies; * engage in germane new program development; or * maximize student success opportunities that facilitate degree or certificate completion followed either by students' obtaining meaningful, gainful employment or by their successfully transferring to a four-year college or university.** Possessing a spirit of innovation and creativity, the Director will lead the newly created Center for Data Science (formerly the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning). The incumbent will oversee and coordinate all LCC research efforts and initiatives supporting institutional effectiveness and planning. She/He will create and lead various institutional research efforts for the purpose of helping LCC become a model of cutting-edge approaches to student success and institutional effectiveness. Essential Duties: Provides primary administrative management, leadership, and coordination within the areas of research and planning, and recommends academic policies and procedures in these areas. Establishes and maintains the Center as a venue both of and for collaboration, cross-functional outreach and teamwork, and faculty, administrative, staff, program, divisional, and institutional support. Guides or helps to guide the formulation of college-relevant questions (e.g., those relating to student behavior, program integrity, and the like) and oversees the design of quantitative investigations and analyses aimed at answering those questions. Guides her/his direct reports in particular and, more generally, the academic divisions and the College as a whole in cutting-edge approaches to strengthening enrollment management; increasing student retention and success; targeting areas for new program development; and the like. Makes recommendations for college-wide improvement opportunities. Leads or assists others to lead the formulation and implementation of policies related to institutional planning, quality, and research. Creates (or helps to create) and leads (or helps to lead) various institutional research efforts for the purpose of helping LCC become a model of cutting-edge approaches to student success and institutional effectiveness. Works with senior academic leaders in creating and monitoring a culture of evidence-based leadership and decision-making. Operationalizes and implements research studies to support academic, student success, strategic planning, and other initiatives that are aligned with the strategic outcomes and priorities of the college. Coordinates, monitors, and reviews for accuracy and consistency various mandated local, state, and federal reporting of institutional data. Disseminates information to appropriate constituents within the college. Uses appropriate models and criteria to support the College in meeting Higher Learning Commission AQIP accreditation requirements. Core Competencies: A broad and deep technical skill set that includes proficiency in data visualization, including high-dimensional datasets, and predictive analytics/machine learning systems. Substantive work experience involving;and, preferably, leading efforts that involve;predictive/quantitative analytics, or, the ability to demonstrate a high level of competence in leading such efforts. Ability to lead others and achieve objectives in a collegial and collaborative manner. Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well with others. A work style marked by integrity and transparency. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams. Experience in successful project management, or, a demonstrated ability to engage in successful project management. A deep respect for higher education, and a demonstrated commitment to the ideals and mission of community colleges. Demonstrated commitment to diversity. Experience with;and especially project management leadership with;institutional effectiveness and/or strategic planning is a plus. Academic experience, including experience with higher education accreditation, is a plus. Knowledge of ERP systems, course management systems, and relational databases is a plus.
