Full time, 175 days, tenure-track position as a community college Anthropology Instructor is responsible for providing a full professional service week, which may involve teaching at off-campus sites and/or require evening and Saturday classes as part of assignment.

This assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and using multiple teaching methodologies.

This position entails:
• Teaching the broad range of anthropology class offerings
• Providing course instruction and assessment in accordance with established course learning outcomes and assessment criteria
• Informing students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements
• Preparing and grading course assignments and examinations
• Posting and maintaining regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
• Participating in faculty discussion of curriculum, teaching-learning techniques, and teaching materials
• Participating in department, division and college-wide committees
• Developing and revising course materials as necessary to maintain state-of-the art teaching and learning
• Fostering a positive working environment, demonstrating positive communication skills within the college community as well as a respecting the dignity of each individual

Knowledge and Abilities
Desirable Qualifications:
• Masters in anthropology or archaeology
• Recent community college teaching experience.
• Demonstrated success in promoting academic achievement for students with a wide range of skills, motivations, and academic goals.
• Commitment to working effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes teaching, learning, and service for students.


Education and Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s in anthropology or archaeology;
OR – Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in sociology, biological sciences, and forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology;
OR – The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for these positions. Candidates who feel they possess such equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form.
AND – A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
