This job expired 2 months ago.Kennesaw State University seeks applications and nominations for a noted scholar and national leader to fill the cabinet-level position of Chief Diversity Officer. Collaborating with colleagues from across campus and within the University System of Georgia to build community, the CDO will help expand approaches for doing public work to promote diversity and inclusion at Kennesaw State University.
Serving as a member of the President's Cabinet, the CDO will coordinate diversity-oriented programs and initiatives; develop and implement a strategic plan for diversity and inclusion aligned with the university's strategic plan; and assist members of the University community in recognizing and appreciating the value of diversity and inclusion. The CDO will also have a primary responsibility of enhancing cross-cultural understanding at the university through the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and curricula activities that are guided by the principles of diversity, inclusion, transparency, and shared governance. Modeling for colleagues across the university, the CDO will work toward these ends by building internal and external relationships with constituents and key stakeholders and by teaching through a faculty appointment consistent with his/her area of scholarly expertise.
KSU's diversity statement is broad and inclusive, stating: "The KSU population reflects and values differing backgrounds and experiences, including but not limited to age, color, disability/exceptionality, ethnicity, family structure and responsibility, gender, geographic region, language, race religion, sexual orientation and identity, and socioeconomic status."
The CDO will:
- promote and coordinate research, curriculum, training programs, and grant initiatives on diversity and inter-cultural competencies;
- help develop systemic structures to recruit, retain, and promote diverse students, staff, and faculty;
- help foster a campus climate that respects and values diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff;
- chair the university Diversity Forum and serve as facilitator for Presidential Commissions that focus on needs of campus affinity groups;
- coordinate ongoing assessments of diversity that use a range of data-gathering approaches; and
- serve on committees that focus on the promotion of diversity and inclusion programming, outreach, and education.
Qualifications for the position include:
- demonstrated administrative leadership skills in areas of diversity and inclusion;
- demonstrated excellence and national reputation as a scholar and teacher whose scholarship focuses on diversity;
- a terminal degree and credentials meriting appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor;
- ability to promote productive collaboration across multiple stakeholders involved in diversity and inclusion efforts; and
- experience generating curriculum and leading professional development associated with diversity and inclusion topics.

Applicants should submit a letter of introduction discussing qualifications and interests, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to the search firm assisting the University. Review of applications and nominations will continue until the position is filled. It is preferred, however, that all nominations and applications be submitted prior to March 27, 2012. Interviews are expected to take place in mid-April. KSU seeks to fill this position by July 1, 2012.
