Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Teach laboratory and lecture courses in General Biology, Anatomy / Physiology, and other biology, such as microbiology and human biology. 2. Employ innovative and effective teaching methods in the classroom and laboratory. 3. Possess and maintain current knowledge of biology, anatomy and physiology and biomedicine, and computer applications and related technology in biology teaching. 4. Communicate and promote the role, importance, and impact of science and biology to the community. 5. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support. 6. Participate in course development, assessment, and planning activities. 7. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses. 8. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees. 9. Assist students with academic advising. 10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. 11. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission. 12. Teach at other campus sites as needed. 13. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Master's Degree in Biology with an emphasis on Anatomy & Physiology, or in Anatomy & Physiology, or closely related field. 2. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. 3. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Doctorate degree in Biology with emphasis in Anatomy and Physiology or related discipline. 2. Experience at the community college level and a sincere interest in community college teaching and familiarity with special concerns of community college students. 3. Evidence or promise of scholarly activities. 4. 2 years of experience in teaching Biology/Anatomy & Physiology at the college level. 5. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs. 6. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service. 7. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. PHYSICAL DEMANDS 1. Standard classroom equipment and software. WORKING CONDITIONS 1.
