Augusta University’s Department of Communication seeks a full-time Lecturer in Communication beginning August 8, 2019. The Lecturer position is full-time for one year with the possibility of renewal; the position is not eligible for tenure. The candidate, who will teach a variety of communication classes, should have at least an M.A. or M.S. in Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field, although a Ph.D. is preferred. Demonstrated teaching excellence at the college level is preferred. Lecturers teach five classes per term (spring and fall), which may include introductory public speaking and 2000-level required courses. The ideal candidate will be able to work collegially with individuals of diverse backgrounds and will contribute to AU’s overall academic mission.

The Department of Communication at Augusta University prepares students for today’s rapidly changing workplace and emphasizes transferable skills that employers demand in dynamic, creative, and team-oriented environments. In preparation for their career endeavors, our majors develop high professional and ethical standards while coming to appreciate both the innovative nature of modern communication and the importance of enduring democratic values in a free and open society. The department offers an integrated curriculum with the goal of producing graduates with a broad knowledge of communication, including the fundamental skills of the professions and an understanding of the theoretic, legal, and ethical dimensions of communication. Our areas of study include communication studies, journalism, public relations, and television-video production. The department has a video production lab, a student newspaper and magazine, Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, and a Society of Professional Journalists student chapter. Minimum Requirements
The candidate should have at least an M.A. or M.S. in Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field, although a Ph.D. is preferred.
