Health & Welfare: Basic Function/Overview:

THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.

Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities: Other Duties: Knowledge Of: Skills and Abilities: Minimum Qualifications/ Education & Experience:

A.The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:

1.Master’s in geology, geophysics, earth sciences, meteorology, oceanography, or paleontology; OR

2.Bachelor’s in geology AND Master’s in geography, physics, or geochemistry; OR

3.California Community College credential authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; OR

4.Equivalency: Master’s degree in Earth science disciplines, such as: Earth science, marine science, environmental science (Earth and environmental science), Earth science education, atmospheric physics, coastal engineering, ocean engineering, geological engineering, marine engineering, biological oceanography, chemical oceanography, geosciences, coastal geology, planetary geology, planetary sciences, astrogeology, physical geography, geomorphology, climatology, coastal geography, environmental geology, geochemistry, glaciology, hydrogeology, mineralogy, marine geology, paleoclimatology, paleontology, paleogeography, petrology, petroleum geology, petrophysics, sedimentology, seismology, soil science, speleology, stratigraphy, structural geology, volcanology; OR
Master’s degree in any physical science (related to astronomy, chemistry and/or physics), with 30 graduate semester units in an Earth science discipline, as defined in the previous paragraph

C.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may periodically be required to operate a vehicle that necessitates possession of a valid California driver’s license. Such employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been fingerprinted and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for fingerprinting services shall be borne by the candidate.
