Join a dynamic, growing department dedicated to comprehensive undergraduate theatre training via a program of study (BA in Theatre) defined by its commitment to breadth of understanding, hands-on experience, and demonstrated excellence in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, History, Literature, and Management (www.du.edu/theatre).
Position Summary
This adjunct instructor will teach one section of the department's THEA 3700 Scenic Painting. This course will cover techniques and skills necessary in theatrical scenic painting. Topics will include terminology, tools, finishes, abstract techniques, and realistic reproduction. The class will work with the tools of scenic painting to create fully realized images in a variety of styles.
Adjunct Faculty are compensated at a rate of $4,000 per course.
This course takes place Spring Quarter 2019, April 1 - June 14, 2019.
This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Essential Functions
- The instructor will teach the class two days a week for two hours as well as holding office hours to answer student questions.
- Instructor will be responsible for working with Technical Director to maintain supplies in the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent scene painting skills.
- Extensive experience with other theatrical design areas including scenic designers and shop personnel.
- Experience working in a theatrical shop.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts or related area or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Three years' experience in theatrical scene painting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience in theatrical scene painting.
