Position:

The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications for non-tenure-track, 10-month Lecturer position in Art Education in the Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education beginning August 2019.

Qualifications:

Masters or higher degree in Art Education or closely related field by August 2019. Because Towson University places a high priority on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, successful candidates will explain how they have been and could be involved in advancing this campus goal. Qualified applicants will demonstrate knowledge of contemporary theories and best pedagogical practices, and a track record for exceptional teaching, scholarship, and service to the field of art education, with the goal of developing well-prepared teachers of art. Applicants must possess a strong commitment to community and urban education, familiarity with arts integration, and excellence in teaching in public/private K-12 schools, museums or related experience. Willingness to contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, incorporate new technologies and the aptitude to participate in a collaborative working environment are essential.  Creative scholarship is highly desirable.  

Responsibilities:

Faculty must be capable of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, and are assigned an instructional workload of 12 credits of course work for each semester. Faculty are also expected to participate in departmental activities. Work may include supervision of student teachers, partnerships with local and regional schools, advising majors and participation in developing, refining and implementing curricula that meets state mandated standards and assessments.

Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education:

Art Education at Towson University is an essential component in a department that also includes art history and studio arts. The Fine Arts facilities consist of well-equipped studios and labs for photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, illustration, digital and graphic arts, sculpture, metals and ceramics. Other departmental resources include a comprehensive digital fabrication and rapid prototyping lab, an MFA program and two galleries.
