Position Summary: Governors State Universityas College of Arts and Sciences seeks to create an available pool of local (Chicagoland area) Adjunct Faculty candidates to teach sociology courses in the Anthropology and Sociology Bacheloras Degree Program (ANSO). Adjunct faculty will be expected to teach face-to-face courses offered on the Governors State University campus in University Park, Illinois in one or more of the following areas: introduction to sociology, race and ethnic groups, social problems, marriage and family, sociological statistics, gender and sexuality, urban sociology, work and family life, or other courses within our curriculum as required. For more information on the program, please see http://www.govst.edu/cas/anso/ For consideration, interested individuals are invited to complete a cover letter that explains which of the area(s) noted above they are qualified to teach, complete a faculty profile that includes a curriculum vitae, and submit transcripts. At Governors State University, adjunct faculty are hired as temporary faculty with teaching responsibilities for a specific course in a semester or summer session. Adjuncts are not a part of the faculty bargaining unit and are not included in membership of the Faculty Senate.
Minimum Qualifications: At minimum, an MA in sociology or a closely related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have (1) teaching experience in sociology at the undergraduate level; (2) positive teaching evaluations that also reflect enthusiastic and innovative instruction; and (3) availability to teach daytime, online, and/or evening courses at the University Park, Illinois campus.
