Department Overview
**This position is a part-time non-benefits eligible position.**

The Senior Risk Services Manager manages and directs the administrative functions of various areas within the department, including supervising administrative personnel. Develops and implements procedures to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to published policies. Utilizes interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and resolve issues involving a diverse group of faculty, staff, legal and insurance professionals.

Position Details
The UNTH Administration Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Senior Risk Services Manager to join our team. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the Department
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Follows protocols established by the UNT System Office of General Counsel (OGC) regarding interactions and communications with outside counsel, lawsuits and formal legal notices.
* Forwards records and information to the OGC and outside counsel as requested.
* Ensures timely and accurate processing of claims, notice letters and correspondence.
* Administers and oversees the operational aspects of professional liability insurance brokers and carriers regarding procurement, maintenance and management of commercial professional liability indemnification policies as required.
* Responds to claims history/insurance verification requests, using independent judgment regarding reportable events determining pertinent facts and appropriate detail level.
* Monitors insurance programs to ensure the effectiveness of brokers and claims administrators.
* Prepares all reports required by statute or regulation to appropriate state agencies, for signature by appropriate UNTHSC signatory.
* Tracks, monitors and researches both internal and external claim trends as well as case law, statutes and regulations for the purpose of implementing programs and developing mitigation strategies.
* Partners with legal counsel, insurance adjusters and supervisors in the investigation and management of claims and maintains loss run of open and closed claims for reporting and analysis.
* Practices and promotes Early Event Management strategies to increase opportunities for resolution of patient care issues and/or claims.
* Monitors the claims history of the practice and provides an annual report, and audits legal invoices and facilitates payments.
* Designs and implements risk identification programs to prevent or minimize risk to patients, staff and the organization.
* Establishes relationships with medical staff leadership, department managers and staff to facilitate risk identification and prevention.
* Partners on a regular basis with the administration, quality improvement, patient relations and clinical departments to provide guidance on the resolution of patient complaints, to identify liability exposures, to ensure compliance, and to plan proactive measures to prevent claims.
* Promotes compliance with risk management policies and procedures (such as disengagement and missed appointment guidelines and early event management).
* Prepares and presents reports of risk management assessment, exposure, intervention and evaluation to administration and appropriate committees.
* Keeps management informed by reviewing and analyzing special reports; summarizing information; identifying trends.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
