(Job #18-88) Administrator I, Architect. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, 12-month pay plan, exempt position in Facilities Management. Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Director of Planning, Design & Construction, and in collaboration with colleagues across the campus, the incumbent is responsible for typical professional responsibilities and duties as a Licensed Architect in the State of California. The incumbent is responsible for planning, design- ing, developing construction documents, and coordinating the successful implementation of assigned projects; pro- vision of services required to deliver the University's planning, design, and construction functions; and coordinating efforts involved with ensuring university and facility information is accurate and up to date.

Duties:
  • Provide services required to successfully implement major capital projects of all project types.
  • Provides services required to successfully implement minor repair, maintenance, and alteration projects
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure university facility information remains up-to-date and accurate such as space information including building floor plans, various campus maps, and occupancy data.
  • Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects at the schematic, developmental, and permitting stages to ensure projected budgets remain within limitations as determined for projects; develops and presents value engineering options should projects exceed limitation.
  • Develops RFP/RFQ documents and coordinating services and contracts in support of campus projects.
  • Implements and coordinates design review for assigned projects; coordinates discussions with the campus
    community regarding assigned project scope of work, managing stakeholder expectations and interests.
  • Supports Facilities Management in the specification and ordering of approved campus standard furnishings and
    equipment.
  • Develops space solutions to increase space efficiency and satisfy user needs by leveraging CSU/Campus design standards, California Building Code and innovative approaches to re-arrangement and/or renovation.
  • Coordinates development and maintenance of University design guidelines and product standards.
  • This position may supervise others in support of the duties described.

    Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Architecture - OR - equivalent training and administrative work experience involving planning, designing and managing facilities and projects. Two years of progressively responsible work experience involving planning, designing, and coordinating projects. Incumbent must possess a California license to work as professional architect.

    Required Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research, interpret, develop, communicate and implement regulations, codes, policies, procedures, guidelines and precedents regarding facilities information and project manage- ment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with representatives within the campus and public/private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations appropriately. This includes demonstrated consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
  • Thorough knowledge of the California Building Code.
  • Highly developed project management skills including those required to plan, lead and oversee complex projects with a diverse group of clientele.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including a thorough foundation in English grammar,
    spelling and punctuation to effectively communicate standard information.
  • Highly developed analytical skills as required to complete research, produce reports and develop appropriate
    policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions.
  • Ability to effectively use AutoCAD to perform planning and design functions.
  • Working knowledge of GIS software and ability to become a proficient user of this platform to perform planning and design functions.
  • Fluency in the use of standard office equipment (copiers, scanners, multi-faceted phone systems, etc.,), technology and computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Developed skills in the use of specialized software systems (customized databases, maintenance management systems, project management systems, etc.).
  • Ability to build and sustain collaborative working relationships with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of diversity in higher education and a demonstrated ability to incorporate this understanding, as appropriate, in all levels of your work.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • General knowledge of physical planning as pertaining to a University campus.
  • Thorough knowledge of project management practices as related to managing the design effort and construction administration effort associated with facility projects.
  • Well-developed knowledge of physical planning principles associated with successful management of a campus and its associated facilities.
