Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for the Office of Community Standards will serve as a high-level Administrative Hearing Officer, an investigator in gender-based misconduct incidents, and will generally assist in the overall administration and operation of the student conduct process.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Conduct Administration:

  • Serve as an Administrative Hearing Officer for high-level, possible status-changing cases.
  • Serve as a liaison to Residence Education and oversee the Hearing Officers in that department. Oversight of the Hearing Officers includes training, general case-related advisement, coordinating professional development, and facilitating Hearing Officer meetings.
  • Co-advise the College Honor Board for cases referred to the hearing board.
  • Manage the case assignment process for non-academic case and ensure that all discipline referrals are addressed in a consistent and timely manner through appropriate student conduct processes and procedures, including alternative resolution efforts.
  • Serve as the liaison to the Office of Alcohol & Other Drug Services to maintain efficient collaboration between the two offices.
  • Partner with Student Engagement staff for student club and organization investigations and conduct cases.

Title IX:

  • Serve as a co-investigator in gender-based misconduct cases.

Special Projects/other:

  • Assist the Director in reporting annual Clery statistics to Babson Police.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date campus trend reports and statistics.
  • Develop and implement an assessment plan for the office.
  • Aid in the review and editing process of the College's policies and adjudication methods annually by coordinating research and benchmarking other institutions.
  • Assist the Director with developing and delivering student conduct training for campus constituents including Resident Assistants, Peer Mentors, Fraternity and Sorority Life groups, athletes, incoming students and their families, and/or other student groups as needed.
  • Assist with other projects related to community standards that may arise throughout the year.
  • Represent the office on College committees and/or task forces as needed.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Education Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education Required Master's Degree

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • At least 2-4 years of experience in in higher education/student affairs – preferably in residence life and/or student conduct
  • Ability to become proficient in and utilize student conduct software program (Maxient) for the purpose of adjudicating cases and assessment.
  • Must maintain a working knowledge of legal/state mandates and guidance from the Department of Education/Office of Civil Rights as it relates to gender-based misconduct work.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to utilize alternative resolutions and restorative justice efforts where appropriate.
  • Must participate in annual, gender-based misconduct training.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation.
  • Must have strong knowledge and command of college safety policies, student conduct processes, and related legal considerations in student affairs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive student body, faculty, staff, and other constituents.
  • Must have experience with project and program management and evaluation skills; as well as sound financial and budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated comfort in public speaking and presenting; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents and alumni. Special emphasis in the following areas: Public Safety, Office of Academic Services, Legal Counsel, Admissions, Title IX, and Alumni and Friends Network.
  • Must have a willingness to embrace ideas and changes created by all community members.
  • Ability and willingness to solve problems independently; looks for opportunities to take on responsibility; takes thoughtful risks; and effectively acts on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and effectively handles change; demonstrates willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); email communication, database management, and social media.
