Position Summary:

Responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of prospective students primarily in an on- campus capacity. Perform related public relations and marketing functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Marketing/Outreach Administration: Serve as a primarily on-campus resource for visitors to the campus in order to provide admission officer presence when other officers are traveling. Maintain effective communication between high school counselors, independent counselors and agency representatives.  Handle correspondence with students, parents, counselors, agencies and other constituencies. 

Enrollment Operations: Interview and evaluate prospective applicantsRead, evaluate and vote on admissibility of candidates for admission to the College. Lead on-campus information sessions. 

Administrative Operations: Primary responsibility for information sessions and “admission officer of the day” duties. Coordinate Gold Key Guides (volunteer student tour program), working closely with its student Central Board. Assist associate director with marketing and publications.  Supervise front desk coordinator.  Selects, trains and supervises summer tour guides and senior interviewers.  Occasionally cover high school visits or fairs.  Keep abreast of pertinent developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work.  Cooperate with other administrators of the College where necessary, especially the Office of Student Financial Services— and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:  Bachelor’s degree plus two years admission or related experience or equivalent of education and experience. Experience with multicultural issues highly preferred.

Skills: Must be able to work independently, be flexible, and have the ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute multiple projects simultaneously. Experience coordinating activities in an academic setting is a plus.  Must have strong organizational skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds.  Strong analytical and computer expertise including familiarity with MS Office suite. Ability to use sound judgement, creativity and vision.  Must be able to travel. A valid U.S. driver’s license is necessary.
