Benefits Manager

The Office of Human Resources at Wofford College invites applications for a benefits manager. The benefits manager works directly with the director of human resources and benefit plan representatives to procure, manage and implement benefits and benefit plans for the college. The benefits manager has primary responsibility for implementing implement and supporting all Wofford benefit plans and providing excellent service and support for employees in navigating plan benefits and provisions.

The benefits manager is a full-time exempt position. Contingent upon office and business initiatives and activities, occasional evenings and weekend hours are expected; otherwise, the normal work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Benefits management, support and service – The benefits manager coordinates directly with all plan representatives to manage and administer benefit plans, programs and related services for employees.
  • Benefits education – Meet with employees, one-on-one and/or in group sessions to address employee questions as well as provide ongoing employee engagement and information of all benefit plans/provisions. Implement benefit training sessions (including new employee onboarding) to inform and educate employees, supervisors and departments or as required for benefit provision implementations or compliance.
  • Benefit plan reviews/compliance – With the HR director (including plan representatives and applicable committees) review and evaluate benefit plans, provisions and accompanying documents. Stay abreast current trends, requirements and compliance needs.
  • Retiree benefits and plan support – Provide directional guidance and support for plan benefits for Wofford retiree plans. Direct and assist the HR specialist to servicing retirees with applicable plan benefits and provisions.
  • Employee health and wellness – Collaborate directly with Wofford’s Wellness Center to coordinate and implement updates, plan tests or activities to maintain compliance as it relates to Wofford’s health insurance and related programs.
  •  

     

    • Leave management – Manage and administer leave for the college. Guide HR support and payroll to implement and provide comprehensive integrated leave management. Provide training, direction and guidance for employees, supervisors and departments.
    • Other services – As a key member of the Office of Human Resources, the benefits manager contributes to the life of Wofford College through his/her participations in college-wide initiatives, committees and events.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, management or related fields is required for appointment. Preference will be granted for candidates with a master’s degree or advanced training, including professional HR and/or insurance designations and/or licenses. Experience in public speaking and skillsets in mentoring and coaching as well as project management will prove to be successful in this role. Previous professional work experience in the insurance industry or higher education are highly desired. The successful incumbent will be expected to work effectively both independently as well as in groups or a team setting.
