Job description



The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking to an Instructor, Computer Science position for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

This position reports directly to the Division Dean.

Representative Duties

1. Ability to teach all levels of computer science courses including the following: C/C++, Python, Java, Data Structures, Unix/Linux, Mobile Apps Development including iOS and Android;

2. A commitment to encouragement of learning and enthusiastic attitude toward teaching;

3. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities;

4. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to web-based instruction;

5. Knowledge of teaching methods that include critical thinking and problem-solving strategies;

6. Willingness to assist in the development and teaching of new Computer Science courses;

7. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in computer programming and computer science with emphasis upon programming languages and its instructional programs;

8. Commitment to working successfully as a team with other Computing Studies instructors and colleagues;

9. Commitment to participate in campus professional activities that may include, but are not limited to: development of curriculum and new instructional approaches, committee membership, staff meetings, and community outreach;

10. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form;

11. Ability to interact successfully with others;

12. Ability to teach late afternoon, evening, weekend, hybrid and fully online, and/or off-campus when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment;

13. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.


Minimum Qualifications

Master's in computer science or computer engineering

OR

Bachelor's in either of the above
AND
Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering

OR

Bachelor's in engineering
AND
Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR

Bachelor's in mathematics
AND
Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR

Bachelor's degree in any of the above
AND
A master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems

OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.)

Teaching experience in Computer Science at the college level.


Job Work Schedule

This position is full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall 2019. Employment will begin on or about August 15, 2019.
