The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking to fill an Instructor, Computer Networking position for Las Positas College in Livermore, California.

Representative Duties

1. Evidence of ability to teach introductory, certification-based, and advanced networking courses;

2. A commitment to encouragement of learning and enthusiastic attitude toward teaching;

3. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities;

4. Ability to adapt instructional techniques to web-based instruction;

5. Knowledge of teaching methods that include critical thinking and problem-solving strategies;

6. Willingness to assist in the development, administration, and teaching of new CNT (Computer Networking Technologies) networking courses and programs;

7. Evidence of a strong commitment to remain current in Computer Networking Technologies with emphasis upon networking technologies and its instructional programs;

8. Commitment to working successfully as a team with other Computer Studies instructors and colleagues;

9. Commitment to representation and outreach to industry and educational partners as related to program innovation and workforce development;

10. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form;

11. Commitment to participation in campus professional activities that may include, but are not limited to: development of curriculum and new instructional approaches, committee membership, staff meetings, and community outreach;

12. Ability to teach late afternoon, evening, weekend, hybrid and fully online, and/or off-campus classes when scheduled as part of the regular teaching assignment;

13. Evidence of sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities;

14. Ability to interact successfully with others.


Minimum Qualifications

Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience (Computer network installation, microcomputer technology, computer applications), OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience (Computer network installation, microcomputer technology, computer applications) OR equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Industry Certification including A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, Linux+, and MCSA;

2. Experience teaching courses that map to CompTIA networking certifications;

3. Professional experiences and/or teaching experience in cyber security/ethical hacking, cloud storage, VMWare, digital forensics, convergence technologies, Linux, and Microsoft server/infrastructure;

4. Experience with and/or knowledge of outreach to high schools, industry, and regional community college consortiums;

5. Experience with NetLabs (remote/online hands-on labs);

6. Experience with security/networking competitions such as CyberPatriots and National Cyber League.


Job Work Schedule

This position is full-time, tenure track, beginning Fall 2019. Employment will begin on or about August 15, 2019.

Puente Project

A highly-acclaimed program founded at Chabot College in 1981 which explores the Mexican American/Latino experience and has served thousands of California students. Community colleges with Puente programs transfer 44 percent more Latino students to the University of California than colleges without Puente.

DARAJA Project

Offers academic support services and a curriculum focused on African-American literature, history, and issues. Daraja students do better in school and transfer to four-year universities at a higher rate.

Las Positas’ rich course offerings prepare students for degree and certificate completion, transfer to a four-year university, basic skills for success in college, and job retraining. Students are also able to study in career programs designed by the faculty and the community to meet local workforce demands.

Engineering Tech Partnership

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Alameda County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) and Las Positas College (LPC) established a 24-month academic program to provide a technical education and hands-on training for veterans. The new Engineering Technology Program at Las Positas is designed to help veterans develop the skills and training needed for engineering technician careers and establishes a pipeline of qualified candidates for LLNL and other Bay Area employers such as NASA and Sandia and Lawrence Berkeley national laboratories.

Viticulture and Business Program

The college’s award-winning Viticulture and Winery Technology Program partners with the historic and thriving Livermore Valley wine industry. The Business Program, the college’s most popular major, provides training for area businesses, including an industry-specific Retail Management Program, and sponsors a Business and Entrepreneurship Speaker Series.
