Job Summary

Support and advise faculty and instructional support staff on the development and delivery of quality instruction through the effective and innovative use of a range of established and emerging educational technologies in face-to-face, blended, and online courses. Provide creative and appropriate solutions based on clients’ specific instructional goals. Design and deliver face-to-face events, written materials, and online media to provide clients with the knowledge and confidence to become self-sufficient in their use of technologies.

Essential Functions

Coordinate delivery of support in a team-based environment in collaboration with staff and graduate consultants in Instructional Innovation and across IT. Build and maintain campus-wide relationships with faculty and staff in order to draw on, and refer clients to, a wide range of campus resources.

Coach and provide direction to clients on the selection of appropriate technological and pedagogical tools based on their own instructional goals and level of technological confidence, and provide technical support to clients facing technological challenges with patience and clarity. Encourage self-sufficiency and independence in the use of technology.

Coordinate and lead specific projects as necessary and in consultation with the Associate Director of Instructional Innovation, and/or Associate Provost for Instructional Innovation to evaluate technologies, roll out support for new services, and assess client interest in emerging technologies.

Design and deliver workshops, presentations, and user group events with particular attention to pacing, sequence, appropriate details, and mixed levels of experience.

Coordinate and create time-sensitive communications with clients in the form of email responses to individual questions, mass email announcements, posts to online media, paper-based communications, and other media as appropriate.

Produce written instructions and reference materials to be delivered in a variety of media and contexts, including paper handouts, Web pages, blog posts, and recorded online tutorials.

Other Functions

Proven experience designing and developing clear instructional materials in written, graphic, audio, video, or multimedia form. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to proofread, edit, and produce effective written materials and presentations.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and public relations skills. Must possess a customer-service driven and team-oriented approach.

In-depth technical knowledge of on-line Learning Management Systems used in higher education (e.g. Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai, or Canvas). Significant experience with the following types of technologies and tools: Mac and Windows Operating Systems, basic software such as Microsoft Office, interactive web-based tools such as blogs or wikis, content creation software such as Adobe Creative Suite, and audio/video editing and delivery software used for podcasting and screencasting.

Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, work independently or with multiple constituencies, speak or make presentations before groups, and conduct effective training.

Must be a self-starter and be able to manage time and multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, accomplish goals, and meet deadlines.

Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.

Keep current on developments in educational technology and maintain personal technical skills. Consult as needed on specific technical issues that fall within personal areas of expertise and interest.

Supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees in the delivery of support in the use of the campus learning management system and other instructional technologies.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, instruction Design, Education Media, Education Technology or a related field, with 4 yrs of experience in delivering technical training in an academic environment.

OR

Master’s degree in education, communication, instruction Design, Education Media, Education Technology or a related field, with 2 yrs of experience in delivering technical training in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Comprehensive knowledge of instructional design theories and methodologies.

Experience working with instructors in a higher education environment.

Supervisory experience.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Professional staff salary Administration-Program Position Level _26_, associated to a level 27__.
