Job Description:

Position Profile

The University of Massachusetts - Amherst invites applications for the position of Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (EADAA) in the College of Nursing. The EADAA is a newly created position that will provide academic and overall leadership to the College. The EADAA will lead initiatives aimed at promoting and planning for academic excellence, implementing international student programs, and building academic and staff collaboration, as the college expands its programming and multidisciplinary partnerships. This is an outstanding opportunity for a visionary, creative, enthusiastic nurse leader who has a demonstrated record of administrative experience and scholarly achievement.

The Position:

Reporting to the Dean, the EADAA serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College of Nursing and will be responsible for the overall administration of all academic programs. The EADAA lends

thoughtful leadership and strategic guidance to assistant deans, program directors, faculty, and staff through the implementation, and evaluation of curricula ranging from baccalaureate to doctoral degree programs. The EADAA will oversee the delivery of student education, advising services, and learning resources. The EADAA will work in partnership with faculty and staff to create a culture that embraces academic excellence and enhances the quality and distinction of program offerings, and student success.

The EADAA will provide strategic direction and leadership in realizing the College's vision, identify areas for future growth, further enhance its academic and research portfolio, enhance the quality of the student experience and success, and work to meet the diversity expectations of the university.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications and Desired Attributes:

To be qualified, candidates must be eligible for an RN license in Massachusetts at time of offer, must obtain a MA RN license within 3 months of hire, and must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Three years of administrative experience as an associate dean
  • Chair of a nursing department, school, or college offering both undergraduate and graduate (including doctoral) programs
  • Possess other significant nursing leadership experience

Additional Information:

The most qualified candidate will have:

  • At least one of the following:
    • A terminal degree from an accredited institution
    • Doctoral degree in nursing
    • Master's degree in nursing with a doctoral degree in another field
  • Academic record appropriate for appointment to the university as a full professor with tenure
  • Academic administrative experience commensurate with a senior appointment in a research-intensive university environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and innovate in a large and complex organization
  • Demonstrated financial management experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including collegiality and collaboration
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with clinical partners to promote and maintain excellence in academic programs
  • Experience with recruitment and retention of qualified and diverse
    faculty and students
  • Demonstrated management of metrics for continuous quality improvement in academic or clinical outcomes
  • An understanding of online and distance education and emerging
    technologies in support of academic programs and student success
  • High standard of professional integrity and a strong sense of professional ethics
