The George Washington University invites applications for a tenure line faculty position at the rank of full professor who will serve as the Director of the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration, beginning as early as fall 2019. The Trachtenberg School is ranked among the top fifteen graduate programs in public affairs in the nation. We offer master’s degrees in public administration, public policy, and environmental resource policy, as well as graduate certificates in nonprofit management, budget and public finance, and environmental resource policy. We also offer a PhD in Public Policy and Public Administration. The Trachtenberg School is housed within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences with 21 budgeted faculty and over 450 degree and certificate candidates each year.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

This position offers the opportunity to build on the School’s strengths and reputation and enhance its national standing. We produce high-quality faculty research, and prepare practitioners for successful careers in public service. We consider our large and engaged alumni network a key strength. Working with the faculty, the Director should bring or quickly develop a vision for leveraging the School’s underlying strengths and its location in Washington, DC. The Director must have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, both within the School itself and as a capability developed by our students to allow them to work effectively within diverse communities and workforces. The School also prizes our engaging student-centric environment and we look to build on this advantage. The Director must be able to blend strategic leadership skills with operational management skills to both ensure efficient daily operations as well as prepare the School to succeed over the long run. The Director mentors faculty, supervises six full-time staff, and maintains an appropriate research and teaching agenda.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must hold a doctorate and have a substantial record of scholarly accomplishment. Applicants must also possess prior experience in administrative positions in higher education or major research organizations.
