Position Summary

This is a full time, permanent position reporting to the Program Manager Student Life and based in Washington, DC. Leading a team of Residential Life Administrators (RLAs), this live-in position coordinates all aspects of the programs and services for the NYU Washington, DC residential facility (both the community development as well as the administrative aspects such as room selection, RLA selection, room changes, and semester transition). The position directly supervises the staff of Residential Life Administrators, and oversees them in carrying out their respective duties. The Residential Life Coordinator provides crisis intervention to residents; assesses nature of problems and resolves or refers for resolution; conducts investigations of alleged violations of University and residence policies, holds meetings, interviews participants, determines degree/seriousness of violations, and issue sanctions. This position is responsible for assigned after-hours secondary duty phone rotation to address any student emergency and supports the RLAs serving on primary duty phone rotation. Advises students and collaborates with NYU Washington, DC staff to create a living and learning community to enrich the students' University experience. Develops and implements residential learning community programs and initiatives; assists with student development operations.

Qualifications

Required Education Bachelor’s Degree

 

Required Experience 3 years relevant experience or equivalent combination. Must include experience in community development activities, programming, and residence life experience and administration.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population within a multicultural environment. Must possess excellent leadership and conflict resolution skills and the ability to quickly and effectively respond to emergency situations. Knowledge of standard office software package. Significant nights, weekends and holiday hours may be required. Limited overnight travel is required.

 

Preferred Education Masters degree in related field.

 

Preferred Experience Experience working with student programs and a diverse student body (e.g. international students, study abroad students, first year students and external students). Social media and student recruitment experience. Student or staff supervision.
