General Summary

Depending on program needs, which vary by semester, the School of Social Work (SSW) at Eastern Michigan University may seek new Part-Time Lecturers to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in social work practice, social policy, social work theory, social work research and diversity. Graduate concentrations courses focus on the areas of practice with children and families; practice in health and aging; and practice in the areas of substance abuse and mental illness.

The position is based on course assignment availability each semester, applications are being reviewed in June for Fall semester; November for Winter Semester and March for Summer semester. We will hold your application for one year, if a position does become available applicants that meet our criteria will be contacted. Although this position remains continuously posted, it doesn't guarantee that the SSW is currently hiring.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching may include a number of particular obligations which employees are expected to fulfill, including but not limited to: meeting with students during and outside of assigned classes, assessing student work and performance, preparing syllabi and course materials, providing copies of syllabi and course materials to their supervisor on request, and assigning and submitting grades in accordance with established Eastern Michigan University schedules.

Perform related duties as required.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between EMU and the EMU Federation of Teachers (EMUFT) Part-time Lecturers, which covers wages and other terms and conditions of employment.

Qualifications

The selected candidate must have an MSW degree plus two years post-master's degree experience. Courses beyond the introductory level require five years post-masters experience, or a PhD and three years of social work experience. Candidates with prior teaching or training experience and positive evaluations are highly desired. Evidence of success in teaching or training is required for assignments to more advanced courses undergraduate courses, and graduate courses.
