Dr. Daniel Levin of Pediatric Surgery and Dr. Sean Moore of Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of Virginia are seeking a postdoctoral cell biologist with an interest in intestinal biology and tissue engineering. This position will work closely with Drs. Levin and Moore, as well as with multiple post-doctoral fellows and research associates in the study of tissue engineered intestine, intestinal stem cell biology and intestinal circadian clocks. Researchers will be expected to dedicate the majority of their time to enteroid and enteric neuron isolation and culture, cellular imaging, preparation of bioabsorbable scaffold, murine husbandry and survival surgery. The position will be expected to work well as part of a large team investigating methods of curing intestinal disorders such as intestinal failure, short bowel syndrome, environmental enteropathy and inflammatory bowel disease.
Qualified candidates must have a PhD; Proficiency and expertise in common cellular biological techniques and laboratory management is mandatory. Knowledge and experience with the breeding of novel murine transgenic strains is preferred. Previous experience in murine surgery is preferred but techniques can be taught upon arrival in the laboratory as well.
