The Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs assists the Vice President in all matters related to academic affairs and, working closely with Division Chairs, is specifically charged with oversight of academic affairs processes.

The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday and 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and as needed. Flexibility is required.

College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the college's staff and students. The final candidate for this position will be subject to the following background checks: Criminal History Check and Credit Check.

Required Skills

Education/Knowledge Required: Specify required degrees, experience, special skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance.

  • Minimum of a master's degree in one of the academic disciplines in the college’s program. Earned doctorate preferred.
  • Successful teaching experience in higher education, preferably in community college(s).
  • Minimum of three years successful academic administrative experience, preferably in community college(s). Comparable professional management experience in business or industry may substitute for up to one year of academic administrative experience.
  • Must be capable of leading faculty; be sensitive to student’s needs and interests; be committed to fostering excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful collaboration among various academic constituencies to achieve institutional and division goals and objectives.
  • Must possess outstanding communication skills.
