The Colgate University Athletics Department is seeking energetic, outgoing, and experienced candidates for a full-time Athletics Administration Fellow. Under the supervision of the Vice President/Director of Athletics and Sr. Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff, the Athletics Administration Fellow, during the course of a two year appointment, will be responsible for assisting the VP/Athletics Director and Sr. Associate AD/Chief of Staff with assigned tasks and projects associated with Administration, Sport Oversight, Conference Governance and other internal operations.

Accountabilities

The Athletics Administration Fellow will be charged with working independently as well as collaboratively on projects, events, and initiatives throughout the department. Responsible for carrying high level projects from initiation to completion; organizing people, information, and materials around identified outcomes; and communicating with senior staff members, coaches, student-athletes, and other constituents in a professional, personable, and highly respectful manner.

Primary Accountabilities:

Responsible for assisting the Athletics Director and Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff with assigned tasks and projects associated with Administration, Sport Oversight, Conference Governance and other internal operations. Examples of associated tasks include:
•Supporting the daily operations of the Athletics Executive Team and Senior Staff
•Generating program evaluation reports
•Completing next actions on sport program requests or gathering data in preparation for meetings to discuss strategic plans for sports
•Summarizing Conference Office communication and identifying questions requiring conversations with coaches

Daily tasks associated with research, budget management/analysis, meeting execution, campus relations and other areas of departmental operations assigned as needed. Examples of associated tasks include:
•Gathering, organizing and reporting information from peer institutions around various questions to assist administrative decision-making
•Researching actual costs or alternative methods of pursuing program goals to leverage purchasing power or optimize cross-program utilization
•Gathering and organizing meeting agendas, and contributing ideas to the ongoing enhancement of administrative meeting structures
•Communicating with campus liaisons to help identify high-impact, low-cost opportunities to enhance student-athlete integration with the general student body.
•Performing budget analysis to identify inefficiencies and maximize resources

Will assist with assigned tasks and projects associated with human resources and athletics department staffing. Examples of associated tasks include:
•Serving as liaison between PERA and the Human Resources Department
•Facilitating off-boarding, recruitment, and on-boarding processes for all PERA employees while ensuring all hiring managers adhere to hiring and termination guidelines outlined in the Staff and Faculty handbooks
•Completing next actions for these units such as conducting product research and gathering potential use data among staff members, editing proposals for new funding or partnerships across campus
•Communicating policies and procedures to new and existing staff members

Additionally, this position will also plan and execute special events as assigned by the Athletics Director and Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff.

Requirements

Professional Experience/ Qualifications

- Undergraduate degree with a minimum of two years work experience in Intercollegiate Athletics
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Project and event planning and execution experience
- Experience conducting industry research and report-writing
- Commitment to compliance with campus, conference and NCAA rules and policies
- Demonstrated initiative; well-developed problem-solving skills
- Ability to assess, prioritize and execute an array of important tasks around shared priorities
- A strong interest and commitment to pursuing a career in the profession of Intercollegiate Athletics
- Demonstrated curricular and extracurricular achievements and community involvement

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience and academic training in higher education and/or athletics administration
- Advanced skills using spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and GTD methods

Education

- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Master’s degree is preferred.

Certifications Physical Requirements Other Information

This is a limited term position designed to provide experience to an entry level professional or those looking for foundation-building intercollegiate athletics administration experience. It is anticipated that the incumbent will not hold the position in excess of two years.
