The Associate Dean of Curriculum and Student Learning serves as liaison for the College with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB); facilitates the development of new baccalaureate, workforce education and academic programs; advises deans and faculty concerning the process, procedures and guidelines for the development of curriculum; ensures compliance of all curricula with the THECB and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Responsible for submission of revisions for baccalaureate, associate degree, and certificate programs to the THECB. Responsible for the assessment of student learning outcomes. Administers the credit course scheduling process for all divisions. Oversees the Curriculum and Student Learning department staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Ensures compliance of all curricula with THECB and SACSCOC.
  2. Keeps abreast of guidelines related to Academic Affairs from THECB and SACSCOC and communicates this information to Academic Affairs leadership.
  3. Coordinates with the SACSCOC liaison to ensure appropriate reporting of all Substantive Changes related to instructional programs or sites.
  4. Responsible for preparing all compliance reports/responses for standards under the area of supervision.
  5. Serves as the institutional liaison for the THECB.
  6. Maintains the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) placement scale for the College and ensures compliance with TSI regulations as proposed by the THECB.
  7. Responsible for the assessment of student learning outcomes, including faculty training, and ensures timely reporting of outcomes data for each department.
  8. Administers the credit course scheduling process for all divisions.
  9. Oversees the new academic and workforce program development process.
  10. Responsible for submission of revisions for baccalaureate, associate degree, and certificate programs to the THECB.
  11. Oversees the student evaluation process and ensures compliance.
  12. Responsible for updating the Faculty Handbook.
  13. Responsible for the core curriculum evaluation process and writes and submits core curriculum evaluation reports to the THECB.
  14. Consults with the college-wide Curriculum and Program Review Committee on Compliance guidelines.
  15. Oversees the development of the College Instructional Calendar, including serving as chair of the committee, and creation and maintenance of the College Minimester calendar.
  16. Oversees the comprehensive Institutional Effectiveness Plan for the Curriculum and Student Learning department.
  17. Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management.
  18. Keeps abreast of technological developments in areas of responsibility.
  19. Provides assistance with special projects as deemed appropriate by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  20. Administers the faculty load and compensation process.
  21. Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, and evaluates the Administrative Assistant, Curriculum and Student Learning Manager, and Director of Academic Assessment; oversees the Curriculum and Student Learning department staff.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Master’s Degree required.
  2. At least three (3) years of experience in curriculum or higher education administration required.
  3. At least three (3) years of administrative/supervisory experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), reporting software, student information systems, Degree Works, and internet research skills.
  3. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects that require demonstrated leadership ability.
  4. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action.
  5. Team player with the ability to collaborate with all college departments, functions, and other support services.
  6. Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  7. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; wiling to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
  8. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural college population.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  10. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, THECB and SACSCOC regulations, governmental regulations, and Legislative policy.
  11. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  12. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from executive management, faculty, staff, students, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or Boards of Trustees.
  13. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  14. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  15. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
