Working Hours: WORKLOAD AND OTHER EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION: Annual on-duty days may range from 195 to 203, spread over 12 months. The standard contractual work week for counselors and learning disabilities specialists is forty (40) hours, including twenty-five (25) contact hours, ten (10) preparation hours, and five (5) institutional service hours. The twenty-five (25) contact hours is defined to include any counseling activity in which counseling service is provided to a student or students, including instruction, workshops, individual or group counseling. The ten (10) preparation hours include course work preparation and counseling preparation (of which 5 hours must be on campus). The expectation is that thirty (30) hours will be on campus. Counselors assigned to teach classes are designated as classroom faculty for that portion of their workload, which is computed accordingly as classroom LHE and comes with a "flex" obligation of two (2.0) hours of documented professional development activities per one (1.0) classroom LHE (fall and spring). These hours shall be translated into non-classroom LHE. The individuals selected for these positions will be assigned a Faculty Service Area (FSA) in Learning Disabilities Specialist and DSPS Counseling, with an additional FSA of Special Education for the instructor, and will be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation. Adherence to all District policies and procedures is expected.

7. Two (2) recent, dated letters of recommendation, preferably written within the last two years, including one from a counselor and/or learning disabilities specialist colleague. Letters need not be confidential. If you already have letters of recommendation in your possession, you may attach them yourself when attaching the other required documents in the online application system. If you would prefer, or if your letter writers would prefer to submit a confidential letter, you can enter their names and e-mail addresses in the online system, and the system will send an e-mail requesting them to submit a letter of recommendation via our online system. IMPORTANT: The system will NOT e-mail your letter writers until you have completely finished applying and receive a confirmation number from the system. 8. Transcripts
a. Transcripts of ALL college degrees/coursework needed to qualify for this position; unofficial or legible copies are acceptable but must indicate that the degree(s) has been conferred, if applicable. POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
MiraCosta College invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions -- Learning Disabilities Specialist/DSPS Counselor and Learning Disabilities Specialist/DSPS Counselor/Instructor -- beginning in July 2019, assigned to work in the DSPS (Disabled Students Programs and Services) Department and reporting to the DSPS Faculty Director. The successful candidates will provide specialized counseling for students with disabilities, conduct assessments for learning disabilities eligibility, and work as integral members of a team that facilitates and delivers services to students with a variety of disabilities. The instructor will also teach credit learning skills courses.

BACKGROUND:
MiraCosta students are diverse in age and represent all of California's major racial/ethnic groups. The credit student population in Spring 2018 was approximately 37% Latinx, 8% Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% Black/African American, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 8% multiracial. Representative Duties:
(E = essential job function)

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Provide academic, career, and disability related counseling (face to face and/or online) to students with a variety of disabilities. Counseling activities include initial interviews, registration assistance, collection of verification documentation, and maintenance of student files. (E)

2. Provide assessment for students seeking eligibility for the Learning Disabilities Program, including administering, scoring, and interpreting mandated assessment batteries (i.e., Woodcock-Johnson-IV, WAIS-IV). Meet individually with students to discuss their learning disability assessment results, learning styles, and academic concerns. (E)

3. Develop and/or monitor Academic Accommodation Plans. Facilitate the provision of academic support services and reasonable accommodations. (E)

4. Counsel students in making course selections and help them to develop abbreviated and comprehensive education plans using the college's online education planning system. (E)

5. Maintain accurate records for each student utilizing program services in compliance with State and Federal regulations. (E)

6. Keep abreast of changing degree, certificate, and transfer information in order to counsel students about the most current requirements. (E)

7. Participate actively in college and departmental committees, subcommittees, projects, and program review.

8. Provide consultation and support to faculty and staff regarding student educational issues. (E)

9. Lead group presentations including student-interest workshops and seminars, DSPS orientations, and group counseling. (E)

10. Provide advocacy for students as appropriate. (E)

11. Collaborate with colleagues, community partners, and local high schools in programs or initiatives that serve racially and ethnically diverse students.

12. Participate in, and/or provide, ongoing professional development activities in the field of counseling and disabilities, including learning disabilities.

13. Exhibit proven cultural humility/proficiency skills when working with students from diverse backgrounds (e.g., first-generation, disproportionately impacted students, low-income, non-traditional college students).

14. Participate in the district's and academic senate's participatory governance processes and committees.

15. Travel to various district sites and programs to meet students as necessary.

16. Work in collaboration with other full-time and associate faculty in DSPS and other departments to coordinate and maintain currency of curriculum that is culturally responsive to students' needs. (E)

17. Assist in the creation, review, development and evaluation of courses both online and on-ground, certificates, and programs in collaboration with other instructors as appropriate that are culturally responsive to students' needs. (E)

18. Participate in the development, assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes (SLOs). (E)

19. Participate in the tenure review process as described in the "Criteria for Evaluation" at http://www.miracosta.edu/hr/downloads/CriteriaForEvaluation.pdf.

Applicable to Instructor Assignment:

20. Teach credit learning skills courses (math, English) designed for students with learning disabilities and students who would benefit from acquiring learning strategies to facilitate and improve academic performance. (E)

21. Maintain currency in the teaching profession and in applicable technologies.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary placement will be on the full-time faculty salary schedule, plus a time factor ranging from 1.1080 to 1.1534 depending on the number of on-duty days. Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:

1. Current certification in the Learning Disabilities Eligibility and Services Model (LDESM) of the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. Or if not currently certified, you must already be enrolled in and successfully complete the LDESM training to be held January 18-20, 2019. IMPORTANT: If you do not have current LDESM certification and are not already enrolled in the January 2019 training, you will not be considered for this position.

AND

2. Appropriate training in cognitive assessment -- Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV (WAIS-IV) and/or Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ IV) Tests of Cognitive Abilities.

AND

3. Appropriate training in assessing achievement -- Wechsler Individual Achievement Test-III (WIAT-III) and/or the Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ IV) Tests of Achievement.

AND

4. Minimum qualifications for community college Learning Disabilities Specialist:

a. Master's degree in Learning Disabilities, Special Education, Education, Psychology, Speech Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Educational or School Psychology, Counseling, or Rehabilitation Counseling; and fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of learning disabilities, to include, but not limited to adult cognitive and achievement assessment or the equivalent; OR

b. a fully satisfied, lifetime California Community College DSPS Instructor/Service Credential for Learning Disabilities.
AND

5. Minimum qualifications for community college counselor of students with disabilities:

a. Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling; OR

b. - Master's degree in counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage, family and child counseling and possession of a California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT);
AND
- Fifteen (15) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities; OR completion of six (6) semester units, or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary DSPS Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities; OR two (2) years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following: (i) counseling for students with disabilities; and/or (ii) counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent. AND

6. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
