Job Description
The Department of Communication and Media at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication in Multimedia Journalism. The appointment will begin in fall 2019.

The successful candidate will teach courses in journalism and serve as program coordinator for the Digital Journalism minor, including curriculum planning and assessment. We seek a person who will take an active role in shepherding the minor. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activity relevant to multimedia journalism and work with the Faculty Advisor for Island Waves, our student newspaper, in order to support it from a pedagogical standpoint.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Journalism or a related field. ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
  • Experience in teaching courses in Newswriting, Media Writing, Editing & Layout.
  • Expertise in the shifting strategies for news production and distribution in contemporary journalism, including social media.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience working in a newsroom or online publication company.
  • Recognition for excellence in journalism by a professional organization.
  • Scholarly activity in academic organizations such as AEJMC.
  • Ability to teach photojournalism.
  • Ability to teach news production/editing.
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Creative Cloud more generally, and other software associated with news production.
